Zaraza

**Zaraza** is a Russian doom metal band that emerged from the underground scene in the early 1990s, blending gloomy, slow-burning riffs with gothic and death-doom influences. Founded by vocalist/guitarist Eugene "Uldor" Baskin, the group became known for its haunting atmospheres and lyrical themes rooted in existential dread, Slavic folklore, and melancholic introspection. After releasing raw, cult-classic albums like *Life Is...* (1994) and *Spasms of Rebirth* (1996), Zaraza went on hiatus in the late ’90s but resurfaced in the 2010s with reissues, remasters (like the *Ultimate Doom Edition* of their debut), and new material that stayed true to their signature brooding sound. Their recent work, including *Slavic Blasphemy* (2022), proves they’re still masters of crafting music that’s as heavy emotionally as it is sonically.
