Morbikon

Morbikon is a blackened death/thrash metal project that emerged in 2020, featuring an international lineup of seasoned metal musicians. The band is headlined by Phil "Landphil" Hall, the prolific bassist and guitarist known for his work with thrash acts Municipal Waste, Iron Reagan, and Cannabis Corpse, alongside Finnish vocalist Matthias "Vreth" Lillmåns from Finntroll and …and Oceans. Drummer Dave Witte, a veteran of Municipal Waste and countless other projects, rounds out the core lineup. The Richmond, Virginia-based collective released their debut album "Ov Mournful Twilight" in October 2022, blending classic melodic black metal worship with a thrashy edge. Their sophomore album, "Lost Within the Astral Crypts," arrived on November 21, 2025, via Tankcrimes Records, building on the foundation of their debut while exploring darker territory with even more technical precision.

For Hall, Morbikon represents a personal creative test—a chance to explore black metal, the one area of extreme metal he hadn't previously mastered. The project grew out of pandemic-era anxiety channeled into songwriting and has evolved into what many consider his most refined work to date, proving that assembling such a talented roster of musicians results in something genuinely special within the metal underground.
