Jaime Meline, known professionally as El-P (short for El Producto), is a multifaceted American musician, rapper, record producer, and entrepreneur hailing from Brooklyn, New York. Born on March 2, 1975, El-P is celebrated as a pioneering force in alternative and underground hip-hop. His career kicked off in the 1990s as part of the group Company Flow, which made waves with their 1997 debut album "Funcrusher Plus." After they disbanded in 2001, El-P went on to become a significant figure in the independent hip-hop scene, co-founding the influential label Definitive Jux and releasing critically acclaimed solo records such as "Fantastic Damage" (2002) and "I'll Sleep When You're Dead" (2007).
However, El-P's profile skyrocketed when he partnered with Atlanta-based rapper Killer Mike to form the hip-hop duo Run The Jewels. Their raw chemistry and socio-politically charged content have been showcased and internationally recognized in several well-received albums. With Run The Jewels, or "RTJ," El-P has co-produced and rapped on four highly acclaimed albums, with the most recent being "RTJ4", released in 2020. Beyond RTJ, El-P has also contributed to soundtracks, as heard in the "Capone (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)" and has been featured on tracks with various artists, demonstrating his adaptability and continued relevance in the evolving hip-hop landscape.
