Lapin Kamariorkesteri

Lapin Kamariorkesteri, also known as the Lapland Chamber Orchestra, is the northernmost professional chamber orchestra in Finland and the entire European Union. Based in Rovaniemi and performing regularly throughout Lapland and internationally, the ensemble consists of 19 full-time musicians under the artistic leadership of conductor John Storgårds, who has guided the orchestra since 1996. The group is celebrated for its dedication to Finnish music and contemporary works, with performances in prestigious venues like the BBC Proms and notable recordings such as “Nordic Sound: Tribute to Axel Borup-Jørgensen,” “Oi Jouluyö,” and works by Kalevi Aho, all reflecting their innovative spirit and high caliber.

The orchestra’s home is the vibrant culture house Korundi in Rovaniemi, which opened in 2011. They have earned wide recognition for their recordings, including Grammy nominations and German classical music awards, and are known for their fresh interpretations of both classics and new commissions, making them a standout ensemble in the European chamber music scene.
