Thomas Gropper is a distinguished German bass-baritone known for his focus on oratorio singing, where he has performed significant bass and baritone roles from Monteverdi and Heinrich Schütz to Orff and Benjamin Britten. He studied opera and concert singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich and has worked with renowned ensembles such as the Münchner Philharmoniker, Münchener Bach-Chor, and Berliner Symphoniker under prominent conductors including Fabio Luisi and Hanns-Martin Schneidt. Gropper's work spans numerous radio and CD recordings, especially of J.S. Bach's oratorios and cantatas, and he has notable opera roles such as Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Papageno.
In addition to his singing career, Gropper is also an accomplished choral conductor and educator. He has led the chamber choir "Arcis-Vocalisten" since 2005 and serves as the musical director of the Philharmonic Choir Fürstenfeld. He was appointed professor for singing, speech training, and vocal didactics at the Munich Music University in 2001.
