Roy Fox

Roy Fox was an American-born dance bandleader who rose to fame in the United Kingdom during the 1930s. Known for his smooth, sophisticated style, Fox earned the nickname "The Whispering Cornetist" because of his soft and lyrical cornet playing. Though he started his career in the U.S., he found great success in Britain, where he led some of the most popular dance orchestras of the era, often performing at high-class venues like the Kit Kat Club and Café de Paris.

He worked with a number of notable musicians and vocalists throughout his career, including the legendary crooner Al Bowlly. Fox's arrangements blended jazz influences with elegant dance rhythms, which made his music a staple of British dance halls and radio broadcasts during the interwar period. His recordings, like “(I’ve Got) Beginner’s Luck” and “Love Is a Dancing Thing,” are still beloved by fans of vintage swing and big band music today.
