Ángel Villoldo

Ángel Villoldo was a pioneering figure in the early development of tango music in Argentina. Born in Buenos Aires in 1861, he's often referred to as one of the "fathers of tango." Villoldo was a prolific composer, lyricist, and performer whose work helped shape the genre in its formative years. His most famous piece, "El Choclo," is one of tango’s earliest and most iconic compositions, and it remains a beloved classic to this day.

Before tango gained mainstream respectability, Villoldo played a key role in popularizing it among a broader audience, often performing in cafés and theaters. He was also one of the first to publish tango sheet music, helping bring the genre from the streets of Buenos Aires to the world stage. His blend of catchy melodies and clever lyrics captured the spirit of the city, making Ángel Villoldo an essential figure in the history of Argentine music.
