Babani Soundsystem

Babani Soundsystem is a vibrant music collective from Mauritius, known for blending traditional Indian Ocean rhythms with modern electronic influences. Formed in 2017, the group consists of five members: Avneesh, Ayef, Gary Mach, and Woréka, who are based in Mauritius, and Daniel Monaco, who is based in Amsterdam. Their music often incorporates traditional instruments like the ravane, a percussion instrument made from goat skin, alongside synthesizers and samplers. This unique blend allows them to create a captivating sound that honors the musical heritage of the Indian Ocean while infusing it with contemporary electronic beats.

Babani Soundsystem has performed at numerous festivals, including Dreamers 8, Nou Le Morne, and le Kaz’Out in Mauritius, as well as Réunion à la Cité des Arts in Reunion Island. Their first single, "Zistwar Fer Per," was released in 2020 and received positive reviews, including a feature in Mixmag Asia’s Musical Pearls of 2020. The group continues to evolve, releasing new music like "LÉLOU" and remixes of their tracks, which have garnered significant attention. Their mission is to restore the value of Indian Ocean music by giving it a modern twist, making them a notable force in the region's music scene.
