New Zealand Symphony
The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO) is the national orchestra of New Zealand and one of the country's longest-standing and most prestigious cultural institutions. Founded in 1946, the Wellington-based ensemble has earned acclaim both at home and internationally for its rich performances and diverse repertoire, ranging from classical masterworks to contemporary and film music. The NZSO regularly collaborates with renowned soloists, composers, and conductors from around the world, and is a champion of music by New Zealand composers.
With a strong recording presence, the NZSO has tackled ambitious projects including works by Bartók, Shostakovich, and Stravinsky, as well as notable film scores and 20th-century pieces like those by Bernard Herrmann and Samuel Barber.
