Jean-Pierre Wallez

Jean-Pierre Wallez is a renowned French violinist and conductor, born on March 18, 1939, in Lille. He graduated with distinction from the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris, where he excelled in violin and chamber music. Wallez's career highlights include winning the highest prize at the 1960 Paganini Competition in Genoa and being the first solo-violin of the Orchestre de Paris from 1975 to 1977. He also led the Ensemble Instrumental de France from 1968 to 1983 and founded the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris in 1978. Wallez has performed with numerous prestigious orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the NHK Symphony Orchestra, and has worked alongside notable musicians like Isaac Stern and Mstislav Rostropovich.

As a conductor, Wallez has held positions with several orchestras, including the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie and the Örebro Chamber Orchestra. He has also taught violin at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique in Geneva and is involved with the Maison Internationale du Violon. Wallez's recordings have earned him awards such as the Grand Prix du Disque. He is recognized for his contributions to music with honors like Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur and Officier dans l'Ordre national du Mérite. His recent releases showcase his versatility in classical music, featuring works by Bach, Vivaldi, and Mozart.
