William Mathias

William Mathias was a celebrated Welsh composer known for his vibrant and accessible music, particularly in the realms of choral and orchestral works. Born in 1934, Mathias developed an early passion for music and went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music. He is especially renowned for his anthem "Let the People Praise Thee, O God," which was performed at the 1981 royal wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. Beyond composing, he also made a lasting impact as a teacher and advocate for the arts in Wales, notably founding the North Wales International Music Festival.
