Celina González

Celina González was a legendary Cuban singer and composer, best known for her passionate interpretations of música campesina, the traditional music of rural Cuba. Born in 1929 in Matanzas, Cuba, she rose to prominence alongside her husband and musical partner Reutilio Domínguez, forming the iconic duo Celina y Reutilio. Their music was deeply rooted in guaracha and son traditions, and they became famous for their devotion to Santería and Afro-Cuban spirituality, which featured prominently in their lyrics.

Celina's powerful voice and vibrant stage presence made her a staple of Cuban music, with hits like "Yo Soy el Punto Cubano" and "Santa Bárbara" earning her national and international acclaim. Even after Reutilio's passing, Celina continued to perform and record solo, collaborating with a new generation of Cuban musicians and keeping traditional Cuban music alive well into the 2000s. Her influence remains strong in Latin American music, with her work celebrated for its cultural depth and emotional intensity.
