David Gates is a singer-songwriter and musician best known for his work with the soft rock band Bread. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gates began playing guitar at a young age and eventually formed Bread in 1969 with Robb Royer and James Griffin. The band released a string of hit songs in the early 1970s, including "Make It with You," "If," and "Baby I'm-a Want You." After Bread disbanded in 1976, Gates embarked on a successful solo career, releasing several albums and singles, including the hit "Goodbye Girl." He continues to perform and record music today, and his songs remain popular with fans around the world.
