Born and raised in India, he later moved to the United States, where he has been based in Minnesota since 1996. As a self-taught musician, Phurbu T. Namgyal has released numerous successful albums, including "Jelyong," "Sem Kyipo," "From My Heart," and "Nyima Sarpa Sharyong." His music plays a significant role in preserving Tibetan culture and language, especially among the diaspora community. He has been recognized with awards such as the "Best Tibetan Music Album of the Year 2005" for his album "With You" and "Best Tibetan Male Singer of the Year 2007."

Phurbu T. Namgyal's music often reflects themes of love, unity, and longing for his homeland, Tibet. He is also involved in charitable work through his Om Charity, which supports poor and sick Tibetans in exile. Despite the challenges faced by Tibetan artists, his music remains popular both in exile and within Tibet itself.
