Slim Twig

Slim Twig is the genre-blurring project of Canadian musician and filmmaker Max Turnbull. Known for his experimental approach to rock and pop music, he emerged from Toronto’s vibrant DIY scene in the late 2000s. His music blends elements of glam rock, psych-pop, and avant-garde sounds, creating something uniquely theatrical and sonically rich. Slim Twig's earlier releases leaned into lo-fi freak-pop aesthetics, while later albums like A Hound at the Hem showcased a more ambitious, baroque style influenced by composers like Serge Gainsbourg.

Aside from his solo work, Slim Twig is also known for his collaborations with labelmate and wife Meg Remy of U.S. Girls, with whom he shares a similar taste for pushing boundaries in pop music. He’s released music on labels like Paper Bag Records and DFA, with his 2015 album Thank You for Stickin’ With Twig gaining attention for its warped, genre-hopping production and playful take on classic rock tropes. Whether through his solo albums or collaborative projects, Slim Twig continues to cultivate a space for inventive, intelligent pop music.
