Wallachia

Wallachia is a Norwegian black metal project formed in 1992 by multi-instrumentalist Lars Stavdal (also known as "S. Winterhell"). Emerging from the fertile Scandinavian extreme metal scene, the band blends raw black metal with majestic symphonic elements, often weaving historical and melancholic themes into their sound. Their name references the historical region of Wallachia in Romania, reflecting their fascination with medieval history and Eastern European folklore.

Over three decades, Wallachia has released atmospheric albums like *Monumental Heresy* and *Shunya*, balancing blistering riffs with orchestral grandeur. Their work occasionally dips into folk metal territory, as heard on *Carpathia Symphonia*, and they’ve embraced their cult status with releases like *Live in Transylvania 2015* and archival collections such as *Rarities and Demo Recordings*. Despite lineup shifts, Stavdal remains the creative core, maintaining Wallachia’s signature mix of frostbitten aggression and epic storytelling.
