Maurílio is the founder of the Comunidade Samba da Vela and is part of the duo Prettos, alongside his brother Magnu Sousá. He began his musical journey at a young age, influenced by his family's musical background. His father, Gilberto Xique-Xique, was a musician who worked with notable artists like Baden Powell. Maurílio also co-founded the Quinteto em Branco e Preto, a group highly regarded in the Brazilian samba scene.
