Walter Boudreau

Walter Boudreau is a Canadian composer, conductor, and saxophonist best known for his pioneering work in contemporary classical music. Born in 1947 in Sorel, Quebec, Boudreau has been a major force in the avant-garde music scene, particularly as the artistic director of the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ), a position he held for several decades. Under his leadership, the SMCQ has become a hub for modern composers and musicians, promoting new music through innovative programming and collaborations.

Boudreau studied composition with notable figures like Serge Garant and György Ligeti and has composed a wide range of works that blend classical traditions with experimental and progressive elements. His creativity and passion for modern music have earned him numerous awards and honors, including being named a Chevalier of the Ordre national du Québec.
