Kimiko Imani is a Japanese-born pianist renowned for her versatility as both a soloist and chamber musician. She made her debut as a soloist with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra at Suntory Hall and has since performed extensively with orchestras in Japan and Europe. Imani studied at the Detmold University of Music under Prof. Anatol Ugorski, where she earned her concert exam diploma in 2005. She was awarded the Prize of the Society for the Advancement of Culture in Westphalia (GWK) and has performed at numerous international festivals and concert series, including the Tokyo Spring and the Palau de la Música Catalana. Imani is particularly noted for her collaborations with oboists like Maurice Bourgue and Albrecht Mayer, and she currently teaches at both the Berlin University of the Arts and the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin.
Kimiko Imani's chamber music engagements are highlighted by her work with the Maurice Bourgue Trio, which she co-founded in 2011. The trio has performed at prestigious venues and released a CD with Sony Classical. Imani also collaborates with violinist Keiko Urushihara and has made recordings for GWK Records and Deutschlandradio. Her expertise in oboe repertoire has led to engagements at prominent oboe competitions and masterclasses worldwide, such as the Musicale de Villecroze and the Slokar International Academy. Her recent musical projects include performances and recordings featuring works by composers like Bohuslav Martinů, Pavel Haas, and Klement Slavický.
