Zecharia Plavin is a versatile pianist and composer born in 1956 in Vilnius, Lithuania. He studied at the prestigious National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art, the Lithuanian Conservatory, and later at Tel Aviv University Academy of Music. In 1984, he received coaching from renowned pianist Louis Kentner. Plavin has performed extensively as a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra since 1980 and has given numerous recitals in the USA and Europe. His recordings include works by Schumann, Scriabin, Liszt, Bloch, Franck, and Mendelssohn. He completed a doctoral dissertation on Ernest Bloch at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1988. Plavin is also a composer and has written works like the lyrical sonata "Full Freedom" (2018). He has been a faculty member at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance since 1990.
In addition to his musical career, Zecharia Plavin has explored cultural and social research, publishing studies on Israeli society and identity. His book "The Heeding Heart" (Be-Lev Shomea) was released in 2012. Plavin's approach to teaching emphasizes empathy and patience, encouraging students to focus on intimate performances rather than grand competitions. He has also authored a fantasy novel, "Requiem for a Holy Island," showcasing his diverse creative talents.
