Sankomota

Sankomota was a legendary Afro-Jazz and rock band originally formed in the 1970s in Lesotho. Led by the charismatic Frank Leepa, the band blended jazz, soul, funk, and traditional African rhythms, creating a powerful and evocative sound that resonated across southern Africa. They were known not just for their musical talent but also for their thought-provoking and socially conscious lyrics that spoke to the struggles and hopes of people across the region.

Sankomota's self-titled debut album, released in 1983, was the first LP ever recorded in Lesotho, marking a significant milestone in the country’s music history. Over the years, they became a cultural force, with songs that still hold a revered place in the hearts of fans. Though the lineup changed over time and Frank Leepa passed away in 2003, the spirit of Sankomota continues to influence and inspire generations of African musicians.
