Theo Brandmüller

Theo Brandmüller was a renowned German composer, organist, and university professor, born on February 2, 1948, in Mainz, Germany. He studied composition with notable figures such as Giselher Klebe, Olivier Messiaen, and Cristóbal Halffter, and his work spanned a wide range of genres, including chamber music, vocal music, and symphonic compositions. Brandmüller gained international recognition in 1977 with his piece "Ach, trauriger Mond" at the World Music Days in Athens. He was a professor at the Hochschule für Musik Saar and served as the director of the Institute for Contemporary Music. His compositions often drew inspiration from poetry and fine arts, reflecting his diverse artistic influences.

As an organist, Brandmüller was known for his preference for contemporary works and improvisations in his concerts. He collaborated with several prominent conductors and was active in various composition courses and international lectures on organ composition and improvisation. His discography includes works like "Canzona lirica e danza di morte" and "Cis-Cantus II," showcasing his versatility as a composer. Brandmüller passed away on November 26, 2012, leaving behind a legacy of over 130 compositions.
