Grupo Los Bravos

Grupo Los Bravos is a legendary Spanish rock band formed in Madrid in 1965. They rose to international fame with their 1966 hit single "Black Is Black," which became the first record by a Spanish group to break into the top 10 on the US charts, reaching #4, and also hitting #2 in the UK. The band combined members from two pop groups, Los Sonor and The Runaways, with their German-born lead vocalist Mike Kennedy (Michael Volker Kogel) delivering a powerful voice that helped define their sound. Despite none of the band members speaking English when recording "Black Is Black," the song’s success was enormous, selling over a million copies worldwide and cementing their place in rock history.

Los Bravos continued to release music through the late 1960s, with notable singles like "I Don't Care" achieving UK chart success. They also appeared in Spanish comedic films and participated in the 1967 Sanremo Music Festival. While tragedy struck with the loss of founding member Manuel Fernández Aparicio in 1968, the band's influence persisted, and they reunited for performances in the 2000s and 2010s. Known for combining elements of beat, rock, and pop with a raw edge, Los Bravos opened the door for Spanish rock on the global stage and remain a celebrated part of 1960s rock history.
