Pro Kid

Linda Mkhize, better known by his stage name Pro Kid or PRO (an acronym for "Prophet of the City"), was a South African rapper who made a significant impact on the local hip-hop scene with his authentic storytelling and heartfelt narratives that resonated with many South Africans, especially those from the townships. Born on June 25, 1981, in Diepkloof, a suburb of Soweto, Johannesburg, Pro Kid's evocative lyrics and charismatic stage presence helped him gain a considerable following.

Pro Kid's career took off in the mid-2000s with a series of successful releases that showcased his linguistic prowess and his ability to chronicle urban life in South Africa. With hits like 'No. 1 Soweto Boy,' he celebrated his roots and gave a voice to the youth of the post-Apartheid era. His album 'Snakes & Ladders' further cemented his reputation as a gifted wordsmith and storyteller, while 'Dankie San,' released in 2007, became one of his signature projects, featuring tracks that remained popular long after their release. Pro Kid continued to explore the complexities of human experience in 'DNA' and 'Heads and Tales,' demonstrating his growth as an artist and maintaining his relevance in the evolving music landscape. His sudden and untimely passing on August 8, 2018, at the age of 37, was a significant loss to the South African music industry and his fans, who still celebrate his legacy and contribution to hip-hop and South African culture.
