Michel Carré was a French librettist and playwright who lived from 1819 to 1872. He is best known for his collaborations with Jacques Offenbach, for whom he wrote the librettos for some of the composer's most famous operettas, including "Orpheus in the Underworld" and "La Belle Hélène." Carré's librettos were known for their wit, satire, and clever wordplay, and he was a master of the genre. He also wrote plays and novels, but it is for his operetta librettos that he is best remembered.
