Thomas Weaver is an American pianist, composer, conductor, and educator with a remarkably versatile career spanning classical performance, contemporary composition, and music direction. He joined the faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music in 2015 and also teaches at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. As a performer, Weaver has collaborated with an impressive roster of accomplished musicians including violinist Jess Gillam, clarinetist Anthony McGill, and members of major American orchestras like the Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and Boston Symphony Orchestra. He's an active member of the Amram Ensemble and a passionate advocate for new music, having premiered works by composers such as David Amram, Reena Esmail, and Anthony Plog.
Beyond his performance career, Weaver has established himself as an award-winning composer whose work blends neo-Romanticism with modernism, featuring highly chromatic, motivically-based compositions with a strong sense of rubato and flexibility. His music has been performed across four continents in cities including Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Berlin, Vienna, and Sydney. He's also an accomplished arranger whose work appears on albums released by Affetto Records, and he previously served as music director of the Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society, leading performances spanning classical repertoire, opera, and jazz. Weaver was honored as the recipient of the Bohuslav Martinu Composition Award.
