Soen is a Swedish progressive metal band formed in 2004 by drummer Martin Lopez, formerly of Opeth, and guitarist Kim Platbarzdis, with vocalist Joel Ekelöf joining in 2010. They quickly gained attention with their debut album *Cognitive* (2012), which showcased their complex yet deeply human sound, mixing intricate rhythms, nuanced melodies, and introspective lyrics. Over the years, Soen has evolved with albums like *Tellurian* (2014), *Lykaia* (2017), *Lotus* (2019), *Imperial* (2021), and their critically acclaimed 2023 release *Memorial*, marked by emotional depth and technical sophistication.

The band is known for blending melodic, heavy, and intricate elements into a sound often compared to Tool but distinctively their own thanks to Ekelöf’s expressive vocals and the band’s compositional originality. Soen's music explores human vulnerability and societal themes, delivering progressive metal that is elegant and experimental rather than just aggressive.
