Kuricorder Quartet

Kuricorder Quartet is this super fun, eccentric Japanese band formed back in 1994 in Tokyo, famous for making the humble recorder (that's "kuri" for chestnut in Japanese) sound wildly fresh and exciting across soprano to massive great bass sizes. These multi-instrumentalist wizards—Yoshiyuki Kawaguchi on alto recorder, sax, and more; Kenji Kondo handling tenor recorder, guitar, and ukulele; Takero Sekijima rocking the great bass recorder, tuba, and jew's harp; plus Masaki Kurihara—blend jazz, folk, blues, classical, funk, and even covers like Star Wars' Imperial March or Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody into a rich, polyphonic vibe that's totally unclassifiable and addictive.

Starting from Tokyo's underground scene, they've built a huge fanbase with albums, live DVDs, soundtracks for anime like *Campfire Cooking in Another World*, films, TV themes, and collabs with pop stars, even charting with their ukulele album in 2006. Over 30 years later, they're still dropping gems like recent OSTs and best-ofs, proving these recorder rockstars keep the party going strong.
