The Orkiestra Symfoniczna Filharmonii w Szczecinie, or Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra, is a renowned Polish symphony orchestra based in Szczecin. Founded in 1948, the orchestra has been a cornerstone of classical music in northwestern Poland for over 70 years. In 2014, they moved into a striking new concert hall that's become an architectural icon for the city, winning the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture in 2015.
The orchestra has worked with many acclaimed conductors and soloists over the years, including Krzysztof Penderecki, who composed a special fanfare for the opening of their new hall. They've built a reputation for performing both traditional classical repertoire and contemporary works, with a particular focus on Polish composers like their namesake, Mieczysław Karłowicz. Their recent albums showcase this range, featuring both Karłowicz's symphonic poems and new compositions.
