Brno Contemporary Orchestra

The Brno Contemporary Orchestra (BCO) was founded in 2011 with a mission to showcase contemporary world music in the Czech Republic and to promote Czech music abroad, especially works from the 20th century onwards. They have carved out a distinctive niche by blending new commissions and lesser-known contemporary works with innovative programming that often links music with other art forms such as film, literature, and visual arts. Pavel Šnajdr is the founder, artistic director, and conductor, while musicologist Viktor Pantůček manages programming to maintain the ensemble's thoughtfully curated artistic vision. The orchestra has worked with renowned soloists like Milan Paľa, Irena Troupová, and Colin Currie, further enhancing its reputation for quality and adventurous performances.

BCO is known for encouraging new compositions tailored specifically for their ensemble, helping to keep contemporary classical music vibrant and relevant. Their releases, including albums like "Reese’s Pieces," "Symphonic Chronicles Vol. II," and "Dimensions, Vol. 4: Works for Orchestra," demonstrate a commitment to modern orchestral repertoire that challenges and engages audiences. Supported by the Statutory City of Brno and the Czech Ministry of Culture, the orchestra continues to build its profile both locally and internationally, making contemporary music an accessible part of daily life for listeners.
