Moriz Rosenthal

Moriz Rosenthal (December 17, 1862 – September 3, 1946) was a Polish-Austrian pianist who is recognized as one of the greatest pianists of his time. Born in Lviv, then part of the Austrian Empire, Rosenthal, a child prodigy, studied under some of the most prestigious teachers of the era, including Karol Mikuli (one of Chopin's pupils) and later on with Franz Liszt, becoming one of his most acclaimed students. His playing was celebrated for its poetic insight, brilliant technique, and a rich tonal palette that made his interpretations of Chopin, Liszt, and other Romantic composers particularly spellbinding.

Throughout his illustrious career, which spanned the late Romantic period into the early twentieth century, Rosenthal enjoyed international acclaim. Despite the paucity of his recorded legacy, the releases such as "Etude Nouvelle in A Flat and Etude in C Major, Op. 10, No. 1 (2020 Remaster)," "The Complete Recordings (Recorded 1928-1942)," and "Chopin: The Piano Concertos," are precious windows into the art of Romantic piano playing, showcasing his masterful execution and delicate finesse. His transcriptions and performances of Johann Strauss works, as captured in "Virtuoso Johann Strauss Transcriptions for Piano" and "Magic of Vienna," also attest to his exceptional ability to translate orchestral music into the idiom of the piano with flair and precision. As a musician deeply rooted in the grand Romantic tradition, Rosenthal's legacy continues to inspire pianists and classical music enthusiasts alike.
