Groundation is a roots reggae band formed in 1998 in Sonoma County, California. The group was founded by Harrison Stafford, who studied jazz and ethnomusicology at Sonoma State University, and his vision has always blended classic roots reggae with elements of jazz, dub, and funk. Groundation stands out for its deep respect for traditional reggae while incorporating complex musical arrangements and improvisation, often featuring live horns and fusion rhythms that pull from diverse musical traditions.
