Jacques Loussier Trio

The Jacques Loussier Trio was founded by French pianist and composer Jacques Loussier in 1959. The ensemble gained fame for its jazz interpretations of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, blending the structures of classical music with the improvisational fluidity of jazz. Loussier's approach to the music of Bach and other classical composers was not only accessible but also innovative, opening the doors of classical compositions to jazz audiences and vice versa. Throughout the years, the trio's membership evolved, with various percussionists and bassists accompanying Loussier to maintain the group's fresh and dynamic sound.

Though primarily known for its jazzy renditions of Bach, as showcased in albums such as "My Personal Favorites: The Jacques Loussier Trio Plays Bach" and "Bach: The Brandenburgs," the Jacques Loussier Trio also turned its talents to interpreting other composers, including Schumann, Handel, Debussy, and Beethoven. Their album "Bach's Goldberg Variations" is a notable highlight, offering a unique take on one of Bach's most challenging and revered works. The Jacques Loussier Trio's discography reflects a consistent commitment to both the integrity of the classical pieces they perform and the improvisational spirit of jazz. Their work has undoubtedly contributed to a deeper appreciation of the versatility and timelessness of classical music compositions.
