Josefus

Josefus is an American rock band with a fervent cult following, hailing from the vibrant music scene of Houston, Texas. The band was formed in the late 1960s, initially, under the name United Gas but quickly changed to Josefus. They found their stride in a potent mix of hard rock, blues, and psychedelic sounds that encapsulated the rebellious spirit of the era. The group comprises Pete Bailey (vocals), Dave Mitchell (guitar), Ray Turner (bass), and Doug Tull (drums), whose synergy made waves in the underground rock circuit.

Their 1970 debut album, "Dead Man", is widely considered a seminal heavy rock record, with its eponymous track earning legendary status among aficionados of the genre. Despite their early momentum and critical praise, mainstream success eluded Josefus, leading them to disband shortly after their first album's release. However, their legacy endured, evidenced by the retrospective releases such as "Not Dead Yet", "Halloween 2004 Live", and "Dead Man Alive", which demonstrate the band's undiminished raw power and appeal to new generations of listeners. Josefus's raw, garage-rock infused sound found fresh appreciation in the stoner and doom metal scenes, cementing their position as unsung pioneers of the heavy rock genre.
