Neon Hearts

Neon Hearts are a pioneering punk/New Wave band from Wolverhampton, England, formed at the height of the UK punk explosion in 1977. Founded by saxophonist Steve Heart after he left Suburban Studs, the band quickly assembled a youthful lineup including Paul Raven on bass, Keith Allen on drums, Martin Ratcliffe on guitar, and eventually Tony Deary (aka Tone Dial) as their frontman. Their early independent spirit led to the self-release of their classic double A-sided single “Regulations”/“Venus Eccentric” in late 1977, making them one of the first DIY punk acts in the Midlands.

Even though they released only a handful of singles and the album “Popular Music” in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Neon Hearts became underground favorites, often drawing comparisons to Roxy Music for their use of saxophone and glam-inspired edge. After an initial split, the band reformed in the 2010s and released new material like the EP “Dangerous Planet” in 2014, further cementing their cult status, particularly in Japan where they toured the same year. Their influence and distinctive sound have left a lasting mark on both the UK punk scene and international audiences.
