Arthur Rubinstein

Arthur Rubinstein (January 28, 1887 – December 20, 1982) was a Polish-American classical pianist who is widely considered as one of the greatest pianists of the twentieth century. He was renowned for his brilliant technique, fluent and expressive playing style, and particularly for his interpretations of the works of Chopin and other Romantic composers. Born in Łódź (then part of the Russian Empire), Rubinstein showed remarkable piano talent from an early age, debuting with the Berlin Philharmonic at the age of 13. His career spanned eight decades, during which he toured extensively, becoming celebrated for the depth and passion of his performances.

Rubinstein was a prolific recording artist, and his discography is extensive, featuring many staples of the classical repertoire. Notably associated with the music of Chopin, he recorded the complete ballades, scherzos, and mazurkas with a poetic sensitivity. His interpretations of Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann were equally revered, displaying not only his technical prowess but also his profound musical insight. Even after his official retirement in 1976, Rubinstein continued to make recordings and give performances. The albums "Fine Piano Tunes" and "Arthur Rubinstein Live, Vol. 1" showcase the enduring appeal of his live performances, while "Rubinstein & Chopin: Perfect Match" underscores his lasting legacy as a definitive interpreter of Chopin's music. Despite his passing in 1982, new collections and live recordings — such as "Arthur Rubinstein at Carnegie Hall New York City, November 10 & December 10, 1961" — continue to be released, allowing new generations to experience the magic of Rubinstein's artistry.
