Gravediggaz were a New York hip-hop supergroup formed in the early 1990s, best known for pioneering the horrorcore subgenre with darkly comic, death-themed lyrics and eerie production. The original core lineup included Prince Paul (aka Dr. Strange), RZA (the Rzarector) of Wu‑Tang Clan, Frukwan (the Gatekeeper), and Poetic (the Grym Reaper); their debut album 6 Feet Deep (released 1994, originally titled Niggamortis overseas) became an underground classic with tracks like "Diary of a Madman" and "1-800-Suicide".
After 6 Feet Deep the group shifted toward more political and varied themes on The Pick, the Sickle and the Shovel (1997), and later released Nightmare in A‑Minor (2001); Poetic died of colon cancer in 2001, and subsequent releases and compilations have appeared over the years, including posthumous and unofficial material and later tracks issued under the Gravediggaz name.
