Chamber Harmonia Orchestra

The Chamber Harmonia Orchestra, now known simply as Harmonia, is a celebrated Seattle-based ensemble with roots tracing back to 1969. It was originally founded by George Shangrow as the Seattle Chamber Singers, focusing on a wide range of music from the Medieval through Baroque to contemporary works. Over time, the group expanded to include an orchestra formed in 1979, broadening its repertoire to embrace choral-orchestral masterpieces and symphonic works, including many premieres of local composers' pieces. After Shangrow's tragic passing in 2010, the ensemble continued to thrive under the leadership of subsequent music directors, including Clinton Smith and currently William White, who has brought innovative programming and a strong commitment to both classic and rarely performed works. Harmonia is known for its unique integration of chorus and orchestra performing as a single entity, celebrated for artistic excellence in the Pacific Northwest.
