Matanza

Matanza was a Brazilian band often characterized by their unique blend of country and hardcore, often termed as "countrycore" by their fans. Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, the group was formed in 1997 and quickly developed a reputation for their energetic live performances and a distinctive, aggressive sound that married the twangs of country music guitars with the raw power of punk and metal. Over the years, Matanza carved out a niche in the Brazilian rock scene, cultivating a loyal following with their lyrical narratives often steeped in dark humor, tales of drinking, and anti-establishment sentiments.

Throughout their career, Matanza has released a slew of albums and singles that showcase their grit and gusto. "A Arte do Insulto" (2006) and "Santa Madre Cassino" (2004) stand as testimonies to their ability to create music that resonates with a crowd yearning for the unorthodox fusion of genres. With "Odiosa Natureza Humana" (2011) and "Thunder Dope" (2012), the band maintained their raw edge, while albums like "Pior Cenário Possível" (2015) solidified their status as mainstays in the Brazilian rock landscape. Their emphatic live performances were immortalized in recordings such as "Mtv Apresenta Matanza - o Bom, Velho e Fedorento (ao Vivo)" (2009), capturing the raucous energy that Matanza brought to every show. Though they disbanded in 2018, their music endures, continuing to inspire a sense of reckless abandon and unapologetic revelry in listeners both old and new.
