Michael Wendeberg

Michael Wendeberg is a versatile musician known for his work as both a pianist and a conductor. Born in 1974 in Albstadt, Germany, he initially studied piano with renowned teachers such as Jürgen Uhde and Benedetto Lupo. He later pursued conducting studies with Toshiyuki Kamioka in Saarbrücken. Wendeberg gained significant experience as a pianist with the Ensemble Intercontemporain in Paris from 2000 to 2005, where he collaborated closely with composers like Pierre Boulez and György Kurtag. As a conductor, he has worked with numerous prestigious orchestras and ensembles, including the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Ensemble Modern. Wendeberg has also held positions such as the first Kapellmeister at the Halle Opera since 2016 and was the musical director of the Ensemble Contrechamps in Geneva from 2011 to 2018.

Wendeberg's repertoire spans a wide range of classical and contemporary music, from Bach to Boulez. He has performed as a soloist with major orchestras and has been involved in several world premieres. His recent engagements include conducting at the Frankfurt Opera and the Semperoper Dresden. Wendeberg is also a professor of piano and piano chamber music at the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin. His work is characterized by a deep engagement with both traditional and new music, aiming to challenge and evolve the way we experience these genres.
