Car Seat Headrest

Car Seat Headrest is an American indie rock band that initially began as a solo recording project by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Will Toledo in 2010. Toledo, native to Leesburg, Virginia, started recording music in his car for privacy, which directly inspired the band's name. Early Car Seat Headrest projects were notable for their lo-fi production quality and released via the music platform Bandcamp, earning a dedicated online following.

The band began to receive wider recognition after signing with Matador Records in 2015, and with the release of "Teens of Denial" in 2016, they solidified their presence in the indie rock scene. With a sound that's a confluence of introspective lyricism, raw emotional energy, and melodic indie-pop, Car Seat Headrest's music explores themes of youth, identity, and the messiness of growing up. Their 2018 re-recorded album "Twin Fantasy" showcased Toledo's willingness to revisit and refine previous work, offering a polished take on the lo-fi original recorded in 2011. The band's latest efforts, such as the 2020 album "Making a Door Less Open" and subsequent releases including "MADLO: Influences" and "MADLO: Remixes," demonstrate the continual evolution of their sound, incorporating electronic elements and genre-fluid experiments that push the boundaries of their established musical identity.
