Katia Labèque

Katia Labèque is a renowned classical pianist who, along with her sister Marielle, forms half of the acclaimed piano duo Les Sœurs Labèque (The Labèque Sisters). Born into a family of Italian musicians, Katia's prodigious talent was nurtured from a young age. She studied at the Paris Conservatory under the tutelage of Lucette Descaves, a student of the composer Ravel. Alongside her sister, Katia embarked on a stellar career that has not only encompassed the classical repertoire but also embraced genres such as jazz, avant-garde, and experimental music.

Katia's discography showcases a breathtaking versatility. Recent projects include "She Came to Me," inspired by Nico Muhly’s cinematic score which explores a nuanced narrative through music. Her dedication to contemporary compositions is also reflected in pieces like "Monk: Ellis Island" and "Chalmin: Eclipse." Together with her sister, Katia has shown a predilection for interpreting the works of Gershwin, evidenced by their releases like "Gershwin: Piano Music." Their collaborative works, such as "Dream House Quartet," underline the duo's commitment to innovative cross-genre collaborations. The sisters' fluency in the language of music is further evident in their renditions of the classics — their album "en blanc et noir" pays homage to Debussy, showcasing their ability to infuse timeless compositions with freshness and vitality. Katia continues to captivate audiences worldwide, both in live performances and through her evocative recordings, pushing the boundaries of piano music alongside her equally talented sister.
