Nice & Smooth is an East Coast hip-hop duo composed of Gregory O. "Greg Nice" Mays and Darryl O. "Smooth B" Barnes, hailed for their harmonic convergence and positive lyrics. Their ascent to fame in the hip-hop scene began in the late 1980s with their self-titled debut album "Nice & Smooth" released in 1989. The album gave rise to their distinct style—a blend of Smooth B's mellow tones and Greg Nice's energetic, off-kilter rhymes. Their single "Funky for You" from the debut album became a notable classic for its catchy chorus and smooth, danceable beats.
Continuing their momentum, Nice & Smooth expanded their discography with "Ain't A Damn Thing Changed" in 1991, containing standout tracks like "Sometimes I Rhyme Slow," which sampled Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" and resonated well with audiences for its clever, pensive storytelling layered over an infectious melody. In 1994, they solidified their status in the hip-hop world with "Jewel of the Nile," upholding their signature blend of humor and harmony. With the release of "IV: Blazing Hot" in 1997, Nice & Smooth confronted the evolving rap landscape with a matured sound and compelling collaborations. Despite not releasing any additional studio albums since, the legacy of Nice & Smooth thrives in their smooth flows and innovative rhythms, which had a lasting influence on the genre and inspired future generations of artists.
