Christ Church Cathedral Choir, Oxford

Christ Church Cathedral Choir, Oxford, is one of the oldest and most renowned choral groups in the world, with a history that intertwines with the rich musical traditions of England and the prestigious University of Oxford. As the resident choir of Christ Church Cathedral, which also serves as the college chapel for Christ Church, the choir comprises a mix of about 12 to 16 boy choristers and 14 male undergraduate singers known as clerks; these singers are joined by the organist and other professionals to create an ensemble that has crafted a reputation for excellence in music both sacred and secular.

The choir's repertory spans centuries of choral music, from medieval works to contemporary pieces, with a particular affinity for exploring lesser-known compositions, as is evident in their extensive discography. Recent releases such as 'Lassus: Choral Music' and the series of recordings exploring 'The Eton Choirbook' volumes illustrate the choir's commitment to performing and preserving a broad range of choral works. Their performances of pieces by Haydn, such as the 'Stabat Mater,' showcase their versatility and ability to interpret classical staples with fresh vitality. Also noteworthy are collaborations with composers such as Francis Grier in 'Grier: Around the Curve of the World,' which expand the choir’s involvement with modern compositions. Through their global concert tours, recordings, and role in the liturgical life at Christ Church Cathedral, the choir continues to inspire audiences with their sublime music-making and dedication to choral tradition.
