Sadiq Faqeer was a renowned Sindhi folk singer from Tharparkar, Sindh, born on March 20, 1964. He came from a family with a rich musical heritage, the Manganhaars, who have been associated with music for centuries. Faqeer began his music career early, learning from his maternal uncle and performing at school functions and local gatherings. He gained wider recognition after his debut on Radio Pakistan Hyderabad in 1986, introduced by Naseer Mirza. Faqeer was not only a singer but also a composer and teacher, holding a Master's degree in Sindhi literature from Sindh University. He was celebrated for interpreting the works of prominent Sindhi poets like Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, Sachal Sarmast, and Shaikh Ayaz into music, contributing significantly to the genre of literary music in Sindh.
Faqeer's performances covered a wide range of languages, including Sindhi, Urdu, Seraiki, and Dhatki, and he performed internationally in countries like India, Dubai, the US, and Saudi Arabia. He received several accolades for his work, including the Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Award and the Sachal Sarmast Award. Sadly, he passed away in a car accident in Saudi Arabia on February 26, 2015, while on a trip for Umrah. His legacy continues to inspire and influence the music scene in Sindh.
