Steven Sogo is a talented musician hailing from Burundi, a country in central Africa. Born in 1983 in Kamenge, a suburb of Bujumbura, Sogo picked up the guitar at age 14 during Burundi's civil war. His music blends traditional Burundian sounds with jazz, blues, and pop, creating a unique style that addresses themes of life, love, and peace.
Sogo is known for his virtuoso bass guitar skills and mastery of traditional Burundian instruments like the umuduri, ikembe, and idonongo. He gained widespread recognition with his hit song "Il Est Beau Mon Pays," a tribute to the beauty of his homeland. Sogo sings in multiple languages, including Kirundi, Swahili, and French, and has been selected as Burundi's music ambassador by the World Bank Institute.
