The Woodsheep is an American indie folk rock band hailing from Morehead, Kentucky. Formed in 2015 by Andrew Preston and Austin Tackett, the band initially started as a duo but soon expanded to include Matt Holleran on drums and Melissa Caskey on upright bass. Their music blends folk roots with experimental, blues, jazz, and electronic elements. The Woodsheep released their debut album, *Watching Mars*, in 2016, followed by *Sleeping Under Stars* in 2018. They also released an EP titled *Numbers On Lemons* in 2019 and a collection of folk songs called *Old Time Pigeon* later that year. The band has toured extensively, including international tours through China, Ireland, and the U.K. As of 2020, The Woodsheep is on hiatus, with its members focusing on other projects, including Andrew Preston's new venture, A.p. Harbor.
The Woodsheep's music reflects a deep connection to Appalachian culture and traditional folk, while also exploring broader musical influences. Their live performances have been well-received, showcasing their ability to engage audiences with a mix of energetic and introspective songs. Despite being on hiatus, the band's legacy continues through the collaborative efforts of its members under the A.p. Harbor project.
