Bridget Budge

Bridget Budge is a British contralto known for her rich, dark contralto voice and specialization in oratorio and concert repertoire. She began singing while studying music at Trinity College, Cambridge, and further honed her craft at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal College of Music. Bridget has performed extensively in the UK and Germany, focusing on a wide-ranging repertoire that includes works by Bach, Handel, Elgar, Dvořák, Brahms, and Tippett, among others. While opera has been a smaller part of her career due to fewer contralto roles, she has performed roles such as Mamma Lucia and Erda, and covered others including Sosostris and Suzuki.

In addition to oratorio and opera, Bridget is active in recital work and has a particular interest in the history and revival of the true contralto voice, often collaborating with pianist Jonathan Ellis to promote this distinctive vocal type. She has also directed choral groups, notably the Borealis choir, and has been involved in recordings of works by composer Hans Gál, including the "Music for Voices" series, helping bring attention to this repertoire.
