Marie Selander

Marie Selander is a Swedish singer and composer born on December 1, 1947, in Stockholm. She has been active in the music scene since the 1960s and has contributed to various genres, including pop, folk, and world music. Selander co-founded the pop group Nursery Rhymes in 1964, which was influenced by bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. She later became involved with the FNL movement and participated in the Freedom Singers, as well as groups like Diddlers and Låt & Trall. In the 1970s, she made significant contributions to folk music, including albums like *Skäggmanslagets* *Pjål, Gnäll och Ämmel* and *Å än är det glädje å än är det gråt*, which won the Swedish Gramophone Prize in 1977. Selander has also been involved in projects like *O Fåglastad* and has worked with various artists and composers throughout her career.

Marie Selander's work extends beyond music; she has been a producer at Sveriges Radio's folk music department and has studied at the Musikhögskolan in Stockholm. She has also been a guest professor at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Selander has received numerous awards for her contributions to music and culture, including the Kasper Prize and the Royal Swedish Academy of Music's medal. Her recent work includes involvement in musical theater and writing books about women in music. She is married to musician Tuomo Haapala and has been active in promoting cultural heritage and feminist causes.
