Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra

The Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra is one of the oldest symphony orchestras in the world, founded in 1835 by Josef Labitzký as a seasonal spa music ensemble. Over time, it evolved into a full-time symphony orchestra under the leadership of Labitzký's son, August. The orchestra has a rich history, including the European premiere of Dvořák's New-World Symphony in 1894. It has collaborated with numerous renowned conductors and artists, such as Jiří Bělohlávek, Emil Gilels, and Mstislav Rostropovich. Today, the orchestra continues to perform a wide range of repertoire, from classical to contemporary works, and participates in various festivals and concerts both domestically and internationally.

Currently, the orchestra is led by Jan Kučera as its chief conductor and has been involved in diverse projects, including crossover collaborations with popular music artists. Petr Pololáník, who served as the orchestra's executive and artistic director from 2001, is also a notable figure associated with the orchestra. The Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra remains a significant cultural ambassador for the Czech Republic, showcasing its musical heritage through performances and recordings.
